HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT THANKSGIVING TABLESCAPE IN 5 EASY STEPS
as the holiday season approaches, one of the first things people tend to think about are how they will decorate their homes, both inside and out. an easy way to elevate your holiday table this season is with a decorative tablescape. the term tablescape is an all encompassing term used to describe the overall table decor including a table’s place settings, glassware and centerpiece. if you’ve never created a tablescape, we are going to break this seemingly daunting task down with step-by-step instructions for you! tablescapes are the perfect way to celebrate these special occasions and provide visual interest for your guests as they are entertained in your home or outdoor space.
STEP 1: GATHER INSPIRATION
we always start any project at details + design with first finding our inspiration. this can come from instagram, nature, magazines or really anything that makes your heart sing. we like to collect images and create a vision board when we are designing a space in a home. this way we can view them in tandem and pull elements together from multiple images that inspire our clients and our design team.
STEP 2: CREATE A BASE LAYER
once you’ve gathered your inspiration, think about the base layer of the table. we love opting for a neutral tablecloth in our outdoor garden space at the shoppe here, but a patterned tablecloth is also a great choice. this can help you pull color elements together so they work in harmony.
STEP 3: ADD DIMENSION WITH HEIGHT
we love adding different heights to the center of the table. here we used this fireplace pillar rack in the middle of the table to add height in a new material. we also used brass lanterns in varying sizes filled with candles and natural pampas grass. mixing and matching materials and textures is key to creating visual interest in the centerpiece. our team also added in natural seasonal elements to add an organic touch. using greenery and other live plants can truly bring the outdoors in during those cooler months of the year.
STEP 4: LAYER IT UP
we always use layering for any tablescape. using placemats like these natural hand woven ones add warmth and organic undertones to your table. if you have a neutral base, you can also use placemats or charger plates to add color and texture to your neutral starting point.
STEP 5: ADD IN YOUR TABLEWARE
the last step here is to add in your tableware items like plates, silverware and glassware. our hands down favorite glassware to elevate a tablescape is by estelle colored glass. estelle carries a wide selection from champagne flutes to decanters in the most gorgeous colors. their hand blown glassware is sure to be an heirloom favorite for years to come. we also used layering here with napkins in a different color linen to to add a pop of color to the place setting itself.
when you complete your fall tablescape, remember to have fun creating something unique that speaks to your soul. alternatively, if you're planning a holiday event and want us to handle the decorating, get in touch by filling out our event inquiry form.
